Redmond Lies On The Ancestral Lands Of The "Coast Salish Peoples"

"We acknowledge that we are on the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish Peoples, who continue to steward these lands and waters as they have since time immemorial. We recognize Washington’s tribal and Indigenous or Native organizations, which actively create, shape, and contribute to our thriving communities. The Redmond Historical Society is committed to doing our part to engage with, and amplify the voices of, Native peoples and tribes."

  1. Thank you for posting this. When I ran for city council, one of the first things I did was look for information about the first residents of Redmond. I was sad it was so hard to find, and even harder to find evidence of any of their descendants that still live in Redmond. I have always wanted to take the time to go back and do more research.

  2. I love our indigenous Indians and how they cared for their land. There's a link to a Seattle museum that could be an excellent resource for you.

  3. Janet, to find evidence of Salish decedents living in Redmond you might try LWSD, Communications Director Shannon Parthamer at: Every year the District honors their indigenous students with a native buffet.
