Redmond, WA
 – The City of Redmond has partnered with Centro Cultural Mexicano and King County’s 4Culture Creative Consultancy grant program to promote the 2020 Census through art. Over the next few months, residents of Redmond will find five vibrant sculptures created by local artists Angie Hinojos Yusuf and Carlos Jimenez in key locations throughout the City.
All five sculptures debuted in Downtown Park this month and will be there until May 15 before being deployed across the City of Redmond for the remainder of the summer. Centro Cultural Mexicano will host a virtual scavenger hunt to find each sculpture and to post the images on social media. Learn more on their Facebook page @centroculturalmexicano.
4Culture, the cultural funding agency for King County, created the Creative Consultancy program to bring creative thinking to the challenges facing our region by forging partnerships between King County cities, artists, and cultural planners. For 2020, the City of Redmond was paired with artists Angie Hinojos Yusuf and Carlos Jimenez and Centro Cultural Mexicano as the Creative Consultants to partner with the City’s efforts in ensuring an accurate, fair and inclusive U.S. Census Count in 2020.
Angie Hinojos Yusuf and Carlos Jimenez know the importance of highlighting untold stories and amplifying unheard voices. Part of the mission of their cultural arts organization, Centro Cultural Mexicano, is to inspire inclusive participation by the community and empower individuals through art and culture. Each sculpture encourages all residents to participate in the Census to be counted.
A complete and accurate Census count is crucially important to the Redmond community. The count affects funding amounts for the next ten years, as well as representation in the democratic process. You can complete the census now at my2020census.gov or call 844-330-2020. The census is available online in 14 other languages or by mail.
