UPDATED: "To da dump, to da dump, to da recycling center dump!"

Lining up for the big city recycling event
UPDATED:  The Friday night fireworks at City Hall were a lot prettier than Saturday's city recycling event.  But, in a much different way, going "to the city recycling dump" with our neighbors was just as much fun!  Read More >>

The event is popular as you can see by the cue-up of cars   (The US Post Parcel Pick-Up station is on the left).  Friendly city staff and recycling vendors expedited our "deliveries" and we were out by lunch.

Our neighbors showed us how to organize the load by drop-off "stations".   A food donation to Hopelink warmed us up.   First stop was a load of decking lumber and then, plastic plant containers, box spring frame scrap, a broken vacuum cleaner and badminton rackets, damaged suitcase, broken ceramic toilet tank, two bags of paper to shred and some other household junk.

According to the city web page  the next event is October 1.  I won't forget my outdated pharmaceuticals, batteries, and ink cartridges next time.  They even take Styrofoam, concrete, stumps, construction materials and appliances.  (Styrofoam is melted down into an acrylic to make plastic coatings and coverings.)

We saw School Resource Officer #22 by the medicine drop-off and the friendly Horace Mann Resource Officer directing traffic.  An undercover police car with lights flashing was very visible!  Someone said the city has four of them.

Hazardous waste isn't taken.  According to the city web page, King County hosts a hazardous waste recycling event in Redmond on August 26-28.
