Homelessness in Redmond
Many of the homeless in Redmond are invisible and the statistics are startling:
According to a city web page:
1. 357 homeless kids in the Lake Washington School District are homeless.
2. There's a 39% increase in homelessness for every $100 increase in rent.
3. Homeless families wait 6 months on average for housing in King County.

I'm reposting this March article to share and understand Cloverleaf's invisible family struggles associated with our rapid rent increases:

And yet our City is "committed" to reducing homelessness and creating affordable housing. What a joke!
ReplyDeleteAs I look at my mortgage payment or the houses in my neighborhood that sell for tens of thousands over asking price or rental prices for a studio apartment; I wonder exactly WHO can afford to live here anymore? Certainly not my millennial son with a job and a frugal lifestyle. Certainly not us in a few more years with taxes increasing. And apparently not families with young children.
Thanks for reminding us about this ongoing social problem, Bob. Thanks for caring.
