Native salmon – sockeye, chinook, coho and chum – have begun their journey from the open ocean to their birthplaces in the streams and rivers that feed into Puget Sound. You may be able to witness their amazing journey at locations around King County.

The Salmon SEEson program website provides information on salmon-spotting locations – from the Green River in Auburn to North Creek in Bothell, and from Piper’s Creek in Carkeek Park to Ebright Creek in Sammamish. This is the 10^th year of the program.

Some salmon-viewing opportunities are self-guided, while volunteer naturalists are available at other locations on select dates to help visitors spot the fish and learn about the salmon’s lifecycle and habitat needs.

Despite a warm spring, this summer’s more moderate temperatures have made the spawning migration less stressful for salmon than last year’s hot and dry summer.

Counter to predictions, coho salmon are returning in large enough numbers to permit limited recreational fishing on Lake Washington, however returning sockeye and chinook salmon numbers are well below historic levels.
