"They [the sale items] are open to everyone [the public] on the same basis – staff do not get preference."A list of some of the items for sale, transfer, disposal, distribution:

Yesterday, I asked Ms. Reith what was meant by "the distribution, transfer, sale and disposal" of the items. Today she responded:
ReplyDeleteThis area is governed by state law: RCW 28A.335.180. After declaring any textbooks or equipment as surplus, we must provide notice to other public school districts and private schools that these items are available for rent, sale or lease. We have some other options, which includes granting surplus property to government entities. We can also give items to “indigent persons” at no cost on the condition the property is used for preschool through 12th grade educational purposes. So, for example, we may give a desktop computer to a student on free lunch so they can use it at home for doing homework. Once these options have been completed, we sell items to the public, putting the money that is raised back into the budget. Items that are not sold are disposed of, i.e., recycled or thrown away as appropriate.
