It's very unfair to sell the plots under a contract for an indefinite number of years! Very unfair - to taxpayers and to some residents who may need it the most for their mental and general health needs ... and for families, and teachers. There should have been a lotto!! Were the Parks and Rec. commissioners involved in the roll-out?? NOT.

From the Mayor's office: "We sent out a park eNews blast yesterday, and all plots were filled within just 4 hours. Total number of plots now available to our community includes 73 plots in our park system (13 ADA accessible), and 42 additional plots available at Spectra Apartments.

Our community garden program currently operates under the following policy:

Plots are purchased for one growing season (April through October)
Gardeners who remain in good standing by contributing 8 hours of volunteer time and properly closing their plot at season's end are eligible to renew annually. We typically see 6-12 plots become available each year
With the addition of the Anderson Park gardens, we anticipate a similar turnover rate.

We strongly encourage community members to join our waitlist, as plots do become available throughout the season."

OF NOTE: Few Redmond, if any residents are aware of the Spectra gardens. Wait-listed openings are always filled by the tenants of Spectra even though they partner with the city.
