EvergreenHealth Board In a State of Flux

EvergreenHealth Board Sees Multiple Commissioner Changes Following General Election

KIRKLAND, Wash. – The EvergreenHealth Board of Commissioners is bidding two commissioners farewell while congratulating and welcoming three others after the King County General Election in November.

Norman Seabrooks, who retired from Aetna, Inc. after a 47-year career in the health care insurance industry, was elected by the EvergreenHealth community to a six-year term. Seabrooks is taking Position #3 on the EvergreenHealth Board, which was vacated by retiring commissioner Tim McLaughlin.  He will be representing Redmond and Sammamish. Norman has lived in Redmond for 22 years, and his entire family receives care at EvergreenHealth.

“I am personally invested in seeing responsible growth and supporting this amazing community-owned hospital system,” Seabrooks said. “EvergreenHealth is an extremely valuable community asset, and our residents rely on our important services to live healthy and happy lives.”

Seabrooks’ term began Jan. 1, 2024.

EvergreenHealth is also extending congratulations to Commissioner Jeff Cashman and Commissioner Virgil Snyder. They were both confirmed in the King County General Election to new 6-year terms, which began Jan. 1 as well. Cashman was originally appointed in March 2023 to Position #6, which is at-large and represents the entire EvergreenHealth service area. Snyder, who serves as the Board Chair, has been an EvergreenHealth commissioner since 2016. He holds Position #7, which is also at-large and represents the entire EvergreenHealth service area.

Meanwhile, EvergreenHealth bidding a very fond farewell to commissioners Tim McLaughlin and David Edwards. McLaughlin is retiring from the board after serving in Position #3 since 2016. During his time, he held the position of board chair for three years, board secretary for one year and was also a member of various board committees.

Edwards resigned from the Board effective Dec. 22. He has held Position #5, another at-large position, since 2020. His resignation comes as he begins a new role on the Woodinville City Council. The Board of Commissioners will be recruiting prospects to serve out the remainder of the term for Position #5, which runs until Dec. 31, 2025. Residents interested in the role can learn more about the Board of Commissioners and apply for Position #5 here.

“EvergreenHealth remains a pillar of outstanding health care and excellent, award-winning services that continues to evolve with our community. I thank my fellow commissioners, both incoming and outgoing, for their leadership and their shared efforts in ensuring EvergreenHealth provides our district with access to exceptional, high-value care,” said Snyder. “I look forward to continuing this work in 2024 and beyond.”

As a public hospital district, some of EvergreenHealth’s services and resources are, in part, funded by community contributions through a tax levy. This means the hospital system is accountable to its community and everyone it serves.

Residents within King County Public Hospital District No. 2 effectively decide the future of EvergreenHealth by electing leaders to its Board of Commissioners. Among other responsibilities, commissioners provide oversight by evaluating and approving major strategic and financial decisions for the hospital system.
