Oxford dictionary: ECLECTIC: deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources.

Mayor Birney once announced Marymoor Village would be "eclectic" and unique from the hum drum of downtown buildings. Looking at this gargantuan project, Spectra, it's just that, a project. Where's the art, the color? Rather, each empty planter box has a tiny pinwheel twirling in the wind.
Well, we know now what happens when the city and Design Review Board throw in the towel to accommodate the developers and the city's insatiable need for housing. SE Redmond is zoned industrial too, permitting us to just look the other way.

Hideous! Redmond and the people approving these projects lack inspiration and imagination. Take a look at what Woodinville is doing. Redmond is just throwing up bland boxes. Sad. I have been in Redmond since 1977. I am saddened to see the lack of vision in this city.
ReplyDeleteRedmond is becoming the projects for millennials. Cramped, no soul, monotone style.
ReplyDeleteIs the spark eclectic? https://www.thesparkredmond.com/
ReplyDeleteSeems some projects are better and some arn't as interesting
The good thing is that there is going to be retail in future developments, which, is what Redmond was beginning to lack, as it was slowly becoming a retail desert. Also, Tous Les Jours and Bon Korean BBQ is opening in the H-Mart, and Due Cucina is opening in the Redmond Square/Grand development!
ReplyDeleteYes, SPARK looks very good (on paper!) I look forward to seeing the final product.
ReplyDeleteAfter taking a tour of the completed project I was going to erase this post since the tour revealed how spectacular Spectra on Marymoor is. I decided to keep it up just for this comment alone. It wasn’t just me who thought the unfinished project was not eclectic. Council member David Carson and Mayor Birney threw in the towel at a council meeting saying Marymoor Village was NOT eclectic.
