Project Overview In Summer 2022, a City of Redmond contractor will place a slurry seal on 180th Ct NE and NE 105th Way. This is a pilot project to test the effectiveness of slurry seals as a pavement maintenance technique.
What is a Slurry Seal? A slurry seal is the application of a mixture of water, asphalt emulsion (mixture of asphalt and a form of soap), aggregate (very small crushed rock), and additives to an existing asphalt pavement to help the roadway last longer.
After Application Slurry seal is brown and sticky, and residents will not be able to drive, bike, walk or allow their pets on the street during the day of construction till the slurry seal has fully cured (will look black and dry). The road’s new surface has more friction and sheds some of the larger aggregate, creating small gravel deposits on top of the new slurry seal. Crews will sweep the streets one week after application, then again in three weeks. Over time, the road surface will smooth out. Why Are We Doing This? The City would like to evaluate and test a different type of maintenance treatment for neighborhood streets. Slurry sealing protects the driving surface of a street and provides an additional water barrier to aging pavement. Slurry Seals cost 1/10th of the typical pavement overlay and is considered as a regular maintenance method. Slurry seals are meant to preserve roadways in good condition for longer periods of time. They are not meant to be placed on significantly cracked or damaged roadways. Please contact us if you have any immediate concerns with this work. We are also seeking your feedback on the new seal. Please email the project manager after the work is done to provide input on the construction process, as well as the final street.
Adnan Shabir CALL ADNAN FOR INFORMATION. What to Expect Work crews will begin work on these streets at 7 a.m. and complete the work same day by 6 p.m. Several “No Parking” signs will be placed on the street one or two days before to prepare for this closure. Vehicles will not be allowed on the road during construction. Emergency response vehicles will be allowed at all times Sidewalks will be open at all times for access to your house. Vehicles left on the street the day of the seal placement will be towed to a nearby street that is not being sealed. Door hangers will be left informing residents of the towing. Residents will be responsible to move the vehicle back to their original location. How You Can Help the Work Crews Remove your vehicle from the streets on the date shown on the “No Parking” signs. Stay clear of the resurfaced roadway until the “No Parking” signs have been removed. We know it is inconvenient, but please park your cars in an area not being sealed and walk to your residence from there. Remove all personal items from the street and keep water off the street during the work. SLURRY SEAL ROAD WORK
