Redmond, WA – The City of Redmond invites community members to give their input on the program and design process for the future Redmond Senior and Community Center. The community is invited to join a virtual public meeting on February 24 from 1-3 p.m. for seniors and 6:30-8:30 p.m. for all ages. In addition to this meeting, an online questionnaire is available through March 10. To RSVP for this meeting or to complete the questionnaire, visit the project webpage at www.redmond.gov/RSCC.
Thousands of citizens have been polled on the Senior Center in recent years. With the Centers not opening in a few years from now; I won't be participating in this survey. I'll wait for the next one. -- B. Yoder, 2/16/2021
“This is another important opportunity for the community to continue to share their priorities for the Redmond Senior and Community Center,” said Mayor Angela Birney. “This building will create spaces for our seniors and all residents of Redmond to gather, recreate, and build a strong community across cultures and neighborhoods. We look forward to hearing your input.”
The City is committed to meet the needs of our displaced senior population by creating a larger, enhanced space that is welcoming, accessible, safe, and sustainable. This space will build on the history and foundation of the former Redmond Senior Center and will serve even more effectively with improved spaces, increased accessibility, and enhanced programming.
The Redmond Senior and Community Center will also create space for all ages to feel welcome, healthy, safe, and included with increased opportunities for fitness, recreation, and community gathering. The need for additional recreation space in the City of Redmond is well-documented and the new Redmond Senior and Community Center will begin to address some of those most urgent needs with new amenities and services such as a flexible active space that can host pickleball, basketball, volleyball, and other activities.
The Redmond Senior Center closed in September 2019, after the City discovered that the building's structural integrity was compromised. The building was demolished in November 2020.
