Total costs for the relocation is $1,060,054 including land.  The original construction cost for this ERRATIC art was  $155,000.  The art was relocated because it was built too close to the light rail easement! It's new location is south of the Matador near Leary.  Residents pay taxes to Sound Transit so there is no free lunch here.  Bob Yoder, 8/29

  1. Why didn’t they just buy another one for 155,000 instead of paying over 1,000,000 to move it?

  2. Do a survey and find out how many like this piece of artwork. If it's truly popular, then consider moving it, otherwise tear it down. This is not a slam-dunk winner that every one loves...it should have to stand a vote to determine if anymore funds should be spent on it.

  3. "Sound Transit has agreed to pay for all the relocation costs" really means "Sound Transit has agreed that local taxpayers will pay for all the relocation costs."

  4. The costs for relocation were split between the city and ST. (ST paid a little more,) Yes, the city is VERY big on surveys when if fits their needs. I'm sure they were embarrassed about the cost of the art and many didn't like the art itself. The embarrassing and big mistake was why wasn't there oversight on a project of this size. You have the arts commission, the administer or the art commissioner, the Planning Director and the COUNCIL. I remember scratching their heads over the meaning of the art but never the location. Big question: What other mistakes has the City made that we don't hear about?

  5. Where did $1 million come from? The City said it cost $486,756 to relocate it.

  6. Another waste of taxpayer money from the city that gave us socks on trees.
