Feeding Redmond School Kids During Covid-19, Organized By Kristen Muscott

Open Kitchen, a ministry of Redmond United Methodist Church, partners with Redmond Nourishing Network to fill the gaps when food is scarce for our most vulnerable neighbors.  Nourishing Network’s School Break Food Box Program depends on community donations, and we need your support more than ever as we commit to serving over 100 families living in the Education Hill area.

Please Help Families By Donating Here.

Your donation will help us fill over 400 boxes with hearty soups, crackers, peanut butter, fresh produce, and more!  More importantly, your gift will lessen stress on families, provide hope, and sustain kids so they are ready for distance learning in this unprecedented time and for their eventual return to the classroom on April 27th (we hope)!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing our belief that NO ONE, especially a child, should ever go hungry!

A special shout-out to the Redmond Kiwanis ClubRedmond Middle School StaffBella Botega QFC, and Local Churches up and down Education Hill for your can-do attitude, your compassion, and for stepping up when things get tough!   You MakeADifference!

School Break Food Box Update

Jazz hands and elbow bumps to our amazing supporters who, in a matter of days, helped us purchase the food we need for our first Food Box distribution! At the end of this week, 150 families living on Education Hill (yes, the number has grown 50% since my last report) will receive a box on their doorstep full of canned goods, some produce, and a little neighborly love (invisible but there !). Thank you for rallying around the cause! Thank you for being a part of the action! Together, we can make our community strong and healthy for all of our neighbors!

If you’ve been thinking about donating but haven’t done it yet, here are some excellent reasons to go for it:

1) Food Boxes support Hopelink’s efforts as the food bank reformats to combat COVID-19 concerns.
2) When families aren’t able to get to LWSD lunch locations, Food Box provides an alternative.
3) We deliver!! For many families, transportation is an obstacle to access.
4) We deliver!! (Yes, I said it again!) Families without health care have one less opportunity to bring germs home from the grocery store.
5) And when I say “We deliver,” I mean Redmond Middle School staff, Redmond Kiwanis Club, and your awesome neighbors who want to make a difference.
6) All food box food has been purchased in bulk with limited handling; less than 10 healthy volunteers in the room wear gloves while packing the boxes, and we take the utmost care in bundling each box.
7) In donating, you become a part of something bigger than yourself, and that’s a pretty good feeling!

Thank you, everyone! Take care of yourself, and take care of those precious hands that are probably feeling pretty crinkly and wrinkly by now!

Rambunctious jazz hands and affectionate elbow bumps,

Kristen Muscott
