Booster Seats For School Children

Under a new State law, booster seats will be required for students up to age 13 if under 4'9."  Will this be another reason to tease or bully?

  1. Obviously, members of the legislature don't have actual experience with children in car seats. One year, my carpool had 4 kids who were all younger than 8, but one weighed more than 100 pounds so he exceeded the weight limit for the car seat and the other had a very long torso so his head hit the ceiling when we tried to put him in a car seat. We broke the law every time we went to and from school. Oops...

Kids come in all sizes and shapes. A 120 lb. 10-year-old who is 4'8" will not be able to fit his or her butt into the car seat and will also exceed the weight limit. You'd be surprised how many obese kids will be affected by this law and will be humiliated.

You're right. This does appear to be bullying by the legislature.
