Council study session to review priorities for community centers

In April 2017, the Redmond’s Community Center Stakeholder Group presented findings and recommendations about the community priorities for community centers to City Council. The recommendations included an expeditious approach to providing:

 Aquatics facility including lap and leisure pools
 Enhanced recreation facilities such as gymnasium and fitness rooms
 Additional classroom and meeting space across the city
 A Cultural Arts center that with flexible space for a variety of indoor events, performances, exhibits, and workshops.

The stakeholder group recommended action within five years and encouraged partnerships and a diverse set of funding sources. Since that time, the City embarked on an energy audit of the Redmond Pool and a Regional Aquatics Partnership and Feasibility Study. Staff kept the stakeholder group together by working on some internal evaluation of site selection for the various community center types and touring pools in the region.

The next meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on September 19, 2018 in City Hall. At the September Stakeholder Group meeting, the agenda will include:
 Status Update on Regional Aquatics Partnership by King County
 Briefing on aquatics demand and partnership interest by WAVE
 Reporting on the findings of the energy audit of the Redmond Pool
 Update on the Facilities Strategic Management Plan and the Budgeting Process

The next week, (9/19) City staff will present to City Council during a study session about the following items:

• Review Community Priorities for Aquatics
• Update on Regional Aquatics Partnership and other partnership opportunities
• Briefing on Redmond Pool Energy Audit
