Light rail connecting the Overlake Village to the Redmond Technology Center is well under way

NE 148th is in the foreground.  The light rail piers are paralleling SR 520.

This photo was taken by me on 148th Avenue NE, just south of NE 29th Place on the SR 520 bridge sidewalk.  It's my understanding the three concrete piers will support light rail from the Overlake Station to the Redmond Technology Center station. (RTCS.) Completion is expected by 2023.  Once the link extension is complete it will be 10 minutes to Bellevue and 30 minutes to Seattle from RTCS.

It's my understanding the three cranes in the distance are in Overlake Village.

The light rail will continue from the RTCS to the SE Redmond Station and on to the Downtown Station located across from Redmond Town Center. Completion is targeted by 2024. It's anticipated the East King County Regional Aquatics Pool and recreation center will be located near the SE Redmond Station.

  1. What's this about an "East King County Regional Aquatics Pool and recreation center" in SE Redmond?

This is the first I've heard about that.

Can you point me to online information about this?

  2. Dan, good question. At this time I haven't found confirmation on the internet that an aquatics center will be located at Marymoor. But I do have some background info. Claudia Balducci, and East King County commissioner stated in her blog that the County Commission at large approved $2m as seed money for an aquatics center. The Marymoor location was identified and discussed by Redmond Council in one of their meetings. At that time it was announced Kirkland, Bellevue, and Redmond would each contribute $15M towards the project. Carolyn Hope, the city's Arts and Culture Planning Manager described the project in a Council Committee Meeting referencing Marymoor as the location. It seems a pool near the Marymoor transit station is a logical location since the County owns the Park and there's plenty of land there for a center.
Bellevue residents could hope on 1 of 5 transit stations to get to the pool. Kirkland residents would probably have to take metro buses. Nothing is firm. The three cities are in the planning stages.
