Prior to founding the Moore Center, Dr. Moore was the Medical Director of the Eating Disorder Program at Swedish Medical Center. In this presentation she will provide an overview of various types of eating disorders, common co-occurring illnesses and the varying levels of treatment. She will also dispel some of the common myths and discuss how to help a family member or friend that is struggling with an eating disorder.

NAMI Eastside (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) is perhaps the largest, and definitely the fastest growing affiliate in the state.

Last year we provided services to 4600, about 800 more than the year before. We’re on track right now to significantly increase that number in 2011. To help us help those in need we need teachers, presenters and facilitators!

· Our Family to Family classes have a waiting list of more than 100 people.

· Our Family Support Groups are huge, often 15-25 people, and our facilitators will tell you that’s way too many to be effective. In addition some facilitators are facing “burn out” and won’t be able to help out much longer.

· We don’t have enough facilitators to offer our Basics class, for parents of young children with an illness.

· We have Connections groups in Redmond and Snoqualmie but need to expand to other areas in order to meet the needs of consumers on the Eastside.

· We finally have money to fund our Peer to Peer classes but mentors turnover all the time.

· Our “In Our Own Voice” presenters have spoken to 950 people already this year. We only have a few presenters that are available during the day which is the bulk of our presentation. This is making it very difficult to keep up with requests for the program.

Once a year, NAMI Washington hosts training for each of NAMI’s Signature Programs and now is that time. We are looking for good, caring individuals who are eager to help others in need. If you know of anyone that might be interested in becoming a facilitator for any of these programs, please have them contact the NES office at info@nami-eastside.org  or at (425) 885-6264, as soon as possible for information on dates, locations, commitments, etc. Applications must be approved by the affiliate prior to submittal so we need to receive them as soon as possible.

The first training class is Family –to-Family on July 7-10th.
