Serving over 60 learners between the ages of 4 and 12 years old each summer at two different sites, the SIP offers enrolled learners the opportunity to receive highly skilled intervention in social skills, language skills as well as academics.--

Speaker - Christie Perkins, a private educational consultant and a certified mediator, will talk about helping to build and to improve positive relationships between families and educators that will ultimately enhance their child’s chances for success in school. Christie serves as the current WSSEC Public Policy Chair. Past President of WA State Special Education Coalition, she has been active on the boards of many organizations which serve children, including the International Dyslexia Association and the Learning Disability Association (LDA). She is interested to hear parental perspective of their view of school support for their child's program. She looks forward to a discussion of both child and parent school experiences.

Eleanor Hamburger (J.D. New York University) emphasizes ERISA and state law health and disability insurance coverage, as well as general business and class action litigation. She received her law degree from New York University School of Law in 1993 where she was a Root-Tilden-Snow Scholar. She received her B.A. from St. Johns College in Annapolis, Maryland in 1988. From 2000-04, Ms. Hamburger worked for Columbia Legal Services where she represented low-income clients in public benefits cases. Ms. Hamburger has authored a number of articles and reports on health care conversion and consumer health care issues. She is a past president and co-founder of the Northwest Health Law Advocates, a nonprofit consumer health advocacy organization.
Ms. Hamburger has a variety of administrative, trial and appellate experience including arguing before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, trial and motions practice in Washington state and federal district courts, and in various administrative proceedings.
Ms. Hamburger is a member of the Washington State Bar Association and is admitted to practice before all Washington state courts, the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She is also a member of the California and Pennsylvania Bar Associations.

Making music as a group is the perfect way for children with special needs in areas such as social skills, self-expression and communication to learn and practice. Through music, social interaction, attention-to-task, and nonverbal and verbal communication are fostered because it is fun and motivating to make music together. Music Therapy addresses multiple therapeutic goals simultaneously by utilizing playful and interactive interventions such as musical ensembles in which children learn basic cooperation and social skills, group improvisation in which children become more aware of the interaction of others, songwriting in which children express creativity and collaborate with others to create, and singing songs that teach and reinforce basic social skills. OUR PROGRAM:
Through synthesis of parent priorities, IEP goals, home program goals and truly individualized attention to your child's needs, we will set up goals and use a multi-modal high parents involvement approach to meet these goals. Combines critical services to an intensive learning experience to achieve optimal results.
MAIN PROGRAM COMPONENTS:
Parent Involvement: Parent orientation, bi-weekly parent conferences.
BCBA Supervision: Daily oversight; weekly 1:1 sessions with each student.
Teacher/Student Ratio: 10 students and 8 teachers to allow specialized attention to MEET goals.

INTENSIVE PEER MODEL SOCIAL GROUPS
OUR PROGRAM:
Developed and co-lead by a speech language pathologist and a BCBA. Focus is on a social thinking approach (e.g., Michelle Garcia Winner) with the opportunity to invite typical peers to participate and high levels of parent involvement to meet goals.
OUR GROUPS:
Friendship Group (Ages 13-17): MON/WEDS 3-4:15
For advanced learners to share experiences of friendship & develop their friendship skills in a safe & supportive learning environment.
Social Thinkers (Ages 9-12): MON/WEDS 1-2:15
A balanced blend of experiences in perspective taking and problem solving focused on building & understanding the hidden" skills of friendships.
Conversation Starters (Ages 5-8): TUE/THUR 1-2:15
Focus on verbal & nonverbal means of engaging in age-appropriate conversations & applying them in fun, engaging activities.
Say & Play (Beginners, Ages 3-5): TUE/THUR 3-4:15
Activities focus on verbal & nonverbal means of interacting in play.
MAIN PROGRAM COMPONENTS:
Group Dynamic: 3 students & 2 typical peers per group. (Participants encouraged to invite known peers/siblings.)
Parent Involvement:
Parent Orientation, Bi-Weekly Parent Meetings during sessions.
Supervision:
Per Session BCBA teaching; Weekly SLP teaching. Lesson planning, progress reporting.
