Leadership Eastside selects Karin Duval as new Managing Director

Bellevue WA - Leadership Eastside (LE) announces the selection of Redmond resident Karin Duval to be the first Managing Director of the Eastside's premier leadership development program. Announcing the selection, LE President James Whitfield said, "Karin's history as a class member of LE, her experience working with non-profits and community groups, her executive management experience, and the synchronicity of our working styles were exactly what I was looking for to build out our staff infrastructure. I am very excited to have Karin with us."

Duval says her new position with Leadership Eastside is a natural fit, "Leadership Eastside's vision of a diverse, vibrant, healthy and mutually supportive Eastside community, is expertly served by LE's Adaptive Leadership approach to leader development. As a member of the LE Class of 2011, Duval's project team was a catalyst for the expansion of the King County Mental Health Court to serve the residents of the Eastside. Duval also has served on multiple community boards, commissions and associations, including putting her BA in Mathematics from U.C. Berkeley to use by serving on the WA State Mathematics Advisory group.

LE's unique three-year program serves the greater Eastside region by helping participants who live in or work on the Eastside to develop their skills and connections to make a difference in their local communities through leadership roles in business, volunteerism and public service.

The organization has been a driving force in building community leaders since 2005 when LE evolved out of the former Leadership Institute and Advance Bellevue programs. With more than 400 LE alumni, students and community partners representing the entire east King County region, LE is making a significant impact on the Eastside. More than 140 Eastside organizations are currently benefiting from LE members' volunteerism serving on nonprofit boards, commissions and chambers and 16 program participants who are holding or have sought public office. LE is now taking applications for its sixth class, which begins this fall.

Duval will work with the President to manage the organization's day-to-day activities and guide LE volunteers, committees and class members in fulfillment of LE's mission. She started officially on February 1 and can be reached at (425) 736-2800, or Karin@LeadershipEastside.com.
