PREPARING YOUR AD/HD AND LD TEEN FOR SUCCESS IN COLLEGE. On February 15th from 6:30-9 P.M, Britt Neff, M.Ed., Counselor Services Coordinator, UW Disability Services for Students, will speak to both college-bound students and their parents. The first year of college is an overwhelming experience for many college students. This transition from high school to college poses a particular set of challenges for students with LD and AD/HD. Find out what you and your teen will need to know to get started off on the right foot and stay on track throughout their college career. This presentation will provide an overview of the academic accommodation process in college as well as helpful tips ranging from what type of documentation is necessary to establish academic accommodations to important academic and self-advocacy skills. The presentation will be held at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center, Surgery & Physicians Center, 12040 NE 128th Street, Kirkland, WA 98034, Room TAN 101 (downstairs). For more information, visit the Eastside CHADD web site.

ROADBLOCKS TO ACHIEVEMENT. During two sessions on Saturday, February 26th, presenter Chris McCurry, PhD will address some of the causes of underachievement and provide strategies to guide parents in helping their students overcome roadblocks. The first session (10:00-11:30 AM) will cover Organization: management of paper, desk, assignments, homework & study habits; and how the brain organizes information and meets goals. The second session (12:15-1:45 PM) will cover The Misorganized Child: learning styles and their impact on underachievement; and thoughts, feelings and beliefs that drive behaviors that negatively affect achievement. A light lunch will be served. The presentations will be held at Redmond Senior Center Multi-Purpose Room (8703 160th Avenue NE, Redmond). Registration is REQUIRED: Please RSVP by Tuesday, Feb. 22nd to Joanne Hall if you plan to attend. This event is sponsored by the Lake Washington PTSA Council.

RAISING AN EMOTIONALLY INTELLIGENT CHILD. In this lively presentation, Dr. John Gottman equips parents with a five-step "emotion coaching" process to help their children learn crucial skills. Emotionally intelligent children are more self-confident, physically healthier, do better in school and have healthier social relationships. The presentation will be held on March 2nd from 7-9 PM at the Washington Cathedral, 12300 Woodinville Redmond Rd., Redmond. Dr. Gottman's lectures sell out! Don't get left out; order your ticket today. Ticket price is $20 plus a $1.99 Handling Fee. For a $3 discount, use "LWSD" in discount code. Tickets are required for this Parent Map Pathways event. This program has not been organized or sponsored by the Lake Washington School District's PTSA Council.

BOYS! BOYS! BOYS! What is it about our boys? Get beyond the stereotypes and help them grow into strong, sensitive, caring and thoughtful men. On Monday, March 7th, from 11:00-Noon, Michael G. Thompson, Ph.D. will discuss issues related to boys, pressured children, and the social lives of adolescents. The presentation will be located at the Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club.
