Redmond Police to hold Education Hill forum on car prowls & burglaries

"A high number of car prowls and residential burglaries have occurred the Education Hill area over the last month. While the number of crimes is not out of the ordinary (in fact, most are down from last year), we realize this can be alarming.  As always, we want to educate you on how to stay safe, how to avoid these crimes, how you can help the Redmond Police Department and answer your questions.

We are holding an Education Hill Community Meeting next Thursday, February 18th at 7:00 p.m. at Redmond Junior High in the Commons Area. We look forward to answering questions and concerns and providing you information that will keep you safer in the future.  No RSVP, just show up and bring your neighbors."

From a FaceBook Fan: We put a check on our door to pay the boy scouts to recycle our Christmas tree. We did it the morning of, and while we were downstairs. We saw someone steal it off our door, but didn't get the plate #. The redmond police took our report, but acted more interested in finding out if we orchestrated the crime than taking the perp info. The perps then took our back account and routing # and printed their own checks with other names on them and wrote over 500 bucks worth of bad checks in Kent. We took immediate banking action and so got our money back.

But the Redmond police were zero help. They would not investigate because the amount was too low to be fraud. They wouldn't even call Kent police to try and contact the names on the checks, which did google to another address. Yes, we followed up several times and left many messages with the police.

The Redmond Mayor and Council have been focused on transforming the city, for better or worse. But they have seemingly ignored the needed parallel transformation of our public safety infrastructure to keep up with these changes. And we have become easy pickings. They have claimed that the recent spate of crimes is not new or larger in volume than usual. Then I would ask why they can't seem to make a difference in preventing them. Unless they are saying they are at least as ineffective as usual.... See More

I won't go to this meeting. It's a waste of time. This is another example of Redmond government in action. Or inaction, more appropriately. We as Redmond residents need to understand that the safety of our families and property lies in our own hands. And look out for each other.

The Mayor and Council is currently working on a selection process for the next Redmond Police Chief. I hope they have their criteria in order, otherwise we'll be dealing with these kinds of crimes for a long time into the future.

I hate to rant, but I'm tired of seeing Policemen on the hill writing tickits, whilke crap like this goes on unabated. What the heck are the Police's priorities, and who is directing them?

John, you put a check on your door??? That's like leaving you wallet on the ground. to a thief, who makes a career out of driving through neighborhoods looking for easy marks.

It is up to us citizens to take the first step in preventing crime, by locking our cars and houses and not creating opportunities for thief's. We are the first line of ... See Moredefense against it. It is impossible and improbable to expect the police to be everywhere at all times.

You complain about the police writing speeding tickets, but the last time I checked, speeding is breaking the law too. I think our police do the best they can with the resources they are provided with.

Rising crime is changing the culture of our neighborhoods. It used to be when the boy scouts offered to pick up your Xmas tree for $5 no one thought twice about leaving a check under the mat, banding their envelope to the tree, or to the door knob. We have to think twice now. Checks are out, petty cash is in. But, what about that payment to the milkman? Our families need to deal with the drug issue, too. We can't count soley on the City police to bail us out.
