Redmond's Downtown Building Designs

Redmond 2100 ??

The city wants to
talk about Downtown architectural and building designs for new development. Help them plan the buildings of 2050.  The 23-acre Nelson downtown village stands out. Townhouses and triplexes are planned for the residential neighborhoods.  Overlake-south will have two new villages.

Tell the city what you like and don’t like in architectural and building designs.  23 building designs are displayed for your opinion and comment.  Add your own ideas for Downtown buildings and comment on the designs.

The city will use your feedback to develop Downtown’s design standards for new development.  Give your feedback here.

Blog comment by Aspen Richer: "Let's be honest with ourselves: any design chosen will look out of date in 20 years. Paint fades and wood weathers. Timeless and durable designs with an eye toward function will fare better than the latest design fad. Instead, I would like to see buildings built based on their function for people and function for the environment.

I want to see buildings built to green standards. This should include design for passive heating and cooling, natural lighting, collection of rainwater, possible use of gray water for landscaping, and more. By necessity, these will create interesting and innovative architectural outlines. I also want to see buildings that are built to be a pleasant place for people and welcoming to people. They should provide trees for shade and awnings to shelter pedestrians from the rain, benches and spaces for resting, ample places to park bikes (either outside on the street or inside in bike parking garages), plenty of small shops and restaurants on the lower level, third places where residents and visitors can meet and linger, etc. I want designs that encourage residents to be outside of their homes as much as they are in them, or at least to be able to enjoy sitting outside on their patios and wave to the neighbor on the patio next to them. I want to see buildings that look like centers of community."
