4th Annual Ananda Mela Festival is July 27-28

The fourth Ananda Mela: Joyful Festival of India will take place at the Redmond City Hall campus, on Saturday July 27^th and Sunday July 28^th, from 12 noon to 8:30 pm. Ananda Mela is organized and produced by the Vedic Cultural Center (VCC, www.vedicculturalcenter.org ).

The outdoor festival, free for the public, attracts a large number of audiences from far and wide to converge at the Redmond City Hall campus for a memorable weekend of joy, conviviality and cultural experiences that are exuberantly Indian.  Read More >>

John Marchione, the Mayor of Redmond said: “Ananda Mela has grown into an iconic cultural event of Redmond. The City of Redmond celebrates its cultural diversity, and is pleased to host Ananda Mela at the Redmond City Hall campus.”

Harry Terhanian, President of VCC, said: “We are very pleased to work with the City of Redmond to bring Ananda Mela to the City Hall campus. We conduct several cultural festivals and events throughout the year in the Seattle area, and Ananda Mela is our largest effort.”

This year’s prime time acts include the dashing 7-piece bhangra-rock fusion band Indanation (July 27, 6 pm) and the ever-popular Delhi 2 Dublin, a high energy Celtic-Bhangra fusion band (July 28, 6 pm). Other attractions include live concerts of Chai Tea Latte and Yogi & the Yoginis, and a number of dance programs by students and teachers of leading dance schools in the community, as well as professional dancers.

Latha Sambamurti, Artistic Director of Ananda Mela noted: “We are presenting a packed schedule of top-quality entertainment on two stages. We are also boosting participatory activities at the festival through several contests.”

Audiences will find ample opportunity to dance, especially at our featured prime-time concerts. Attractive prizes are there to be won in the Aloha Bhangra dance contest, with the grand prize being a one-week vacation for two to Hawaii.

Delicious food from many regions of India will be offered at the festival. With the cooking contest, magic shows, bouncies and treasure hunt contests for children, tempting shopping opportunities, and other attractions, Ananda Mela aims to attract and engage attendees of all ages.
