Hi Bob,
Just a quick update: the Redmond Transit Center Garage is filling up by 8:30 most days. If I head for the bus any time after 8:00 am I automatically go to the lot by the police station now, as do several other people. Once the bridge tolling begins, this will get much worse. It is so fantastic that we now have this extra lot to truly support commuting for Redmond residents.

Having the overflow parking is nice but the city and metro should figure out a permanent and more appropriate plan to deal with the overflow. This parking lot was once our sculpture park and it would be great to get it back. It is a bummer that the brand new garage is already over capacity.
ReplyDeleteNot to open a can of worms, but as a transit rider who takes the first bus of the day to Seattle at 4:30 AM I can tell you there are typically 20-30 vehicles being left in the garage overnight by apartment residents in the area.
ReplyDeleteI have called and written Metro and Sound Transit about it and have received generic "we'll look into it responses" back. While some cars leave during the day a lot of them do not move judging from the layer of dust on them.
If this was policed a little more maybe some spaces would be freed up.
Thank you for sharing, AnonyOne. The city should find your comment, but to expedite, I'll send your comment onto the mayor's office.
ReplyDeleteI am responding as Redmond City Council Ombudsman for November 2011.
ReplyDeleteI have forwarded your message to Metro Transit as they are responsible for enforcement of parking regulations in their parking facilities. I will be following up with them to make sure they respond to you and your reader’s concern about illegally parked cards in the Redmond Transit Center Parking Garage.

Metro staff has already taken or will soon take the following actions at the Redmond Park-and-Ride garage:
ReplyDeleteMetro staff will place notification warnings on vehicles in the early morning hours prior to the first bus of the day that the park-and-ride lot is not to be used for residential parking and of the 72-hour parking limit. Vehicles with notifications and left over 72 hours will be towed.
Metro staff has contacted the neighboring Veloce Apartments (8102 161st Avenue NE) and Chelsea Square apartments (16340 NE 83rd Street) next to the Redmond Park-and-Ride garage and transit center regarding this complaint. Staff have requested apartment management notify apartment residents by newsletter and/or email that residents, their visitors and guests are not to park in the park-and-ride garage, that the park-and-ride garage spaces are for transit customers only, and that violations are cause for immediate impound.
Metro will continue to monitor this situation as staffing and resources permit.
Metro staff is also currently working with City of Redmond planning staff to obtain additional park-and-ride parking in Redmond near Redmond city hall.
