EvergreeenHealth commissioner steps down

EvergreenHealth Board of Commissioners Representative, Jeanette Greenfield, Steps Down Early from Board

I am hopeful the Board will appoint a resident who will move Mental Health care forward.  BY

Kirkland, Wash. – Jeanette Greenfield has announced her plans to resign her position as EvergreenHealth Board of Commissioners, At-Large effective December 18, 2018. Greenfield will be traveling extensively over the next year and unable to fulfill her board obligations.

While Greenfield’s term ends on December 31, 2019, she has opted to end her term this year in order to allow the board to appoint her replacement. The Board will select a representative later this year for the at-large position to fill Greenfield’s post.

“Jeanette has dedicated 34 years of service to the residents of the Eastside, first as an EvergreenHealth community advisor, followed by her service as a long-time board member,” said Al DeYoung, chair, EvergreenHealth Board of Commissioners. “Her deep commitment to EvergreenHealth has helped advance the health and well-being of this community. We are grateful for her decades of service and supportive of her decision to step down early in order to travel, which is her passion.”

Greenfield joined the Board of Commissioners upon appointment in 1998. She was subsequently elected to serve multiple six-year terms as an at-large representative. During that time, she held the position of EvergreenHealth Board chair in 2001 and 2002 and Board Secretary from 2009 - 2017. In her current role as a commissioner, she chairs the Levy Funded Services Committee, serves on the Board Audit and Finance Committee, Compensation and Retirement Plan and Deferred Compensation Committee, the Board Bylaws and Delegation Policy Review Committee and the Board Digital and Consumer Health Innovation Advisory Council. She also serves on the Eastside Health Alliance Board and the Affiliation Governance Board, the governance authority over hospital operations at EvergreenHealth Monroe.

“I remain excited about the future of EvergreenHealth with the leadership of our board and CEO, Dr. Amy Beiter with her innovative and strategic experience,” said Greenfield. “Given our partnerships with Overlake, SCCA and EvergreenHealth Monroe, I am confident the organization will continue to achieve the outstanding outcomes for which we are known and beyond. I am extremely proud of the organization’s history of community service and the board’s recent efforts around youth mental health and the opioid epidemic.”

During her 20 years of service to EvergreenHealth, the health system realized unprecedented growth and national recognition for quality, safety and service.  EvergreenHealth rapidly expanded from a single hospital to a thriving integrated health system serving a district of nearly 300,000 residents and a total service area of nearly one million. Prior to becoming a board member, Greenfield served for 14 years as a participant in EvergreenHealth's Community Advisors program.

As a public district health care system, EvergreenHealth is governed by a Board of Commissioners, comprised of seven members, each elected by the voters in the district to serve a six-year term. The Board provides governance and accountability for EvergreenHealth’s mission, vision and purpose, quality, service and overall effectiveness, through collaboration and counsel to the system’s CEO.

EvergreenHealth will seek a candidate to fill the At-Large position held by Greenfield.

The prospective Board Commissioner should meet the following basic requirements:
  • Be a resident of KCPHD #2 district
  • Be a registered voter
  • Be engaged in the community
  • Have a track record of public and community service
  • Understand and honor the role of governance
  • Represent the diversity of the community
  • Willing to serve 15-20 hours/month
  • Willing to provide public disclosure
  • Have no conflicts of interest and not employed by the District

Applications for interested residents are available at evergreenhealth.com/board.

Members of the Board of Commissioners include: Al DeYoung, board chair (Bothell/Woodinville/Duvall); Minerva Butler, secretary (at-large); Rebecca Hirt (Kirkland/Kenmore); Tim McLaughlin (Redmond/Sammamish); Charles Pilcher, M.D. (at-large); and Virgil Snyder (at-large).
