AEG Live, King County Parks, unveil initial season lineup for 2014 Marymoor Park Concert Series

Initial launch includes The Fray, Gavin DeGraw, Matt Nathanson, Robyn + Röyksopp, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Heart, Steely Dan, Slightly Stoopid, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Cheech & Chong, War, Foreigner, Styx, 1077 The End’s Summer Camp, Counting Crows, Ray LaMontagne, Rebelution. The summer concert series provides an array of musical entertainment options set against the picturesque backdrop of King County’s gorgeous Marymoor Park.

The 2014 season kicks off June 17th with The Fray. The Denver foursome are the perfect power-pop start to summer and outdoor music at the park. Just a few of the series’ highlights include two Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, Steely Dan (for two nights) and Heart; Scandinavian sensations Robyn and Röyksopp performing together for the first time since 2011; and a host of good-time reggae-influenced performances, including Slightly Stoopid, Michael Franti & Spearhead, and Rebelution. Not to mention a dual bill with legends Foreigner and Styx and a comedy duo close to the Evergreen State’s heart, Cheech & Chong, who will be performing with the legendary group War. There is no better summer experience than spreading out a blanket on the lawn, kicking off your shoes, and relaxing with a gourmet picnic while enjoying an unencumbered view of your favorite band. With the stars above and music all around, every seat is the best seat in the house at King County’s Marymoor Park.

This season brings some enhancements to the concert series including more food and beverage options, a new VIP area with express entry, local beers and wines, an exclusive viewing area, and much more.

The Fray with Barcelona and Oh Honey

The 2014 Marymoor Park Summer Concert Series kicks off with power-pop foursome The Fray. The Denver-based band is touring in support of their new album, “Helios,” which has already received early critical acclaim. Formed in 2002, The Fray achieved national success with their 2005 debut, featuring the hit singles “Over My Head (Cable Car)” and “How to Save a Life,” and earned a Grammy nomination for their 2010 self-titled release.

Two of American roots’ best singer-songwriters take to the Marymoor stage this summer.

New York–based singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw returns to the scene with his powerful new album “Make a Move.” This newest release displays DeGraw’s even more focused vocal and artistic talent, his assured energy, his musically expanded palette, and sharp, detail-driven lyrics. He is known for his hit singles “I Don’t Want to Be,” and “Not Over You…”

Hailing from San Francisco, singer-songwriter Matt Nathanson is one of the most dynamic performers on the music scene today. His hit singles include “Come On Get Higher,” which has sold more than 2 million copies to date, “Car Crash,” “Falling Apart,” “Faster,” and “Run.” His newest album, “Last of the Great Pretenders,” is slated for release this summer.

Seattle singer Mary Lambert, featured on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Same Love,” opens.

Robyn + Röyksopp – Do It Again Tour 2014

Swedish songster Robyn and Norwegian electronic-music duo Röyksopp bring their Do It Again Tour to Marymoor Park. The longtime collaborators, who are best known for their co-releases “The Girl and the Robot” and “None of Dem,” are currently in the studio together. The last time the bands performed together was in 2011 at the Hollywood Bowl.
The Soulshine Tour featuring Michael Franti & Spearhead with SOJA, Brett Dennen, and Trevor Hall
DATE: Fri., June 27

Michael Franti and his reggae band Spearhead bring their unforgettable, high-energy, positive show to the Marymoor stage. With the multi-platinum success of his song "Say Hey (I Love You)" and the chart-breaking 2010 release of "The Sound of Sunshine," Franti and his band guarantee a fun and thought-provoking dance party. Franti’s brand-new single, "I'm Alive (Life Sounds Like)," hits radio now, with a brand-new album to follow this summer.

Virginia-based reggae group SOJA, Northern Californian folk singer Brett Dennen, and North Carolina roots/reggae singer Trevor Hall open.

Heart

Hometown heroes Heart will rock the Marymoor stage. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Ann and Nancy Wilson first showed the world that women can rock when their band, Heart, stormed the charts in the ‘70s with hits like “Crazy on You,” “Magic Man,” “Barracuda,” and “Straight On.” Not only did the Wilson sisters lead the band, they were the first women in rock to write the songs and play the instruments too. Heart continued topping the charts through the ‘80s and ‘90s with huge hits like “These Dreams,” “Alone,” “What About Love,” “If Looks Could Kill,” “Never,” and a string of other hits that showcased the sisters’ enormous talents as musicians and singers. 

Steely Dan
DATE: Saturday, July 5 and Sun., July 6 (two nights)

Rock and Roll Hall of Famers and “Jazz-Rock Ambassadors to the Galaxy” Steely Dan return to the Pacific Northwest for two nights after their sold-out performance during the 2013 Marymoor Concert Series. The band will perform their greatest hits and deep cuts. Steely Dan have sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and helped define the soundtrack of the ’70s. With music characterized by complex jazz-influenced structures and harmonies, Steely Dan's Donald Fagen and Walter Becker have written hits including, “F.M.,” “Bodhisattva,” “Reelin’ in the Years,” “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number,” “Deacon Blues,” “Peg,” “Babylon Sisters,” and “Hey Nineteen.”

Slightly Stoopid with Stephen “Ragga” Marley

The Ocean Beach–based touring machines Slightly Stoopid bring their contagious feel-good California-summer stylings to Marymoor. Nothing says summer fun like the band’s fusion of reggae, folk, hip-hop, punk rock, and funk. Nearly two decades into their ongoing metamorphosis, Slightly Stoopid continues to progress into new musical territory and define their signature sound even further.

Grammy Award–winning reggae singer—and son of reggae legends Bob and Rita Marley—Stephen “Ragga” Marley returns to Marymoor after a knock-out 2103 performance with his brother, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley.

Tedeschi Trucks Band with The Wood Brothers
DATE: Thursday, July 17

In just three years, Tedeschi Trucks Band—the 11-member collective led by husband-and-wife duo Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi—has taken its roots-rich musical mix to audiences across the globe and become a proven powerhouse on stage. Driven by Trucks' signature slide-guitar sound and Tedeschi's honey-to-husk voice, Tedeschi Trucks Band delivers an electrifying blend of blues, soul, jazz, and rock drawing from an ever-evolving song list.

Boulder, Colo., brothers Chris and Oliver Woods, and multi-instrumentalist Jano Rix of The Woods Brothers bring their Americana roots sound in support.

Cheech & Chong and War – Up In Smoke 2014
DATE: Saturday, July 19

Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong and iconic “Low Rider” songsters, War, bring a blend of music and comedy to the Evergreen State with the Up In Smoke tour. The tour is a complete integration of War’s timeless catalogue and Cheech & Chong’s hilariously irreverent no-authority brand of comedy and music that defined an era.

The party begins with War playing hits such as “Spill The Wine,”  “Low Rider,” and “Cisco Kid.” The show progresses from Cheech & Chong’s famous songs such as “Earache My Eye," “Basketball Jones, ” and “Mexican Americans” to some of their most iconic comedic skits, including “Dave’s Not Here” and “Santa Clause and His Magic Dust.” As the show comes to a close, War and Cheech & Chong share the stage to serenade the audience with “Why Can’t We Be Friends.”

Foreigner and STYX – The Soundtrack of Summer Tour

The Soundtrack of Summer Tour brings two of music’s biggest arena rock bands—Styx and Foreigner—to one stage in one night.

Foreigner, hailed as one of the most popular rock acts in the world, are responsible for some of rock and roll’s most enduring anthems including “Juke Box Hero,” “Feels Like The First Time,” “Urgent,” “Head Games,” “Say You Will,” “Dirty White Boy,” “Long, Long Way From Home,” and the worldwide No. 1 hit “I Want To Know What Love Is.” Foreigner continues to rock the charts more than thirty years into the game.

107.7 The End Summer Camp is an all-day celebration of music discovery. See performances by artists about whom you’ll someday say, “I saw them when…” Previous performers include Fun, Neon Trees, Cold War Kids, MGMT, and Neighbourhood, among others. This year’s lineup of rising talent will be revealed in June.

Counting Crows with special guest Toad the Wet Sprocket
DATE: Tuesday, Aug. 12

Since Counting Crows exploded onto the music scene with their 1993, multi-platinum breakout album, “August and Everything After,” the band have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide. They are best known for their singles “Mr. Jones,” “Angels of the Silences,” “Hanginaround,” and “Big Yellow Taxi.”

Alternative-rock band Toad the Wet Sprocket open. A quarter of a century after releasing their first album, they’ve just released a new LP, “New Constellation.”

Ray LaMontagne
DATE: Wednesday, Aug. 13
ON SALE: Friday, April 11 at noon

Grammy Award–winning singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne brings his folk-styled melodies to the open stage. His most recent critically acclaimed album, “God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise” won the Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album. LaMontagne released his new single, “Supernova” in February, and his fifth studio album is due out on May 6.

Rebelution with Iration, The Green, Stick Figure, DJ Mackle
DATE: Tuesday, Aug. 19
ON SALE: Friday, April 11 at noon

Santa Barbara reggae-rockers Rebelution bring their optimistic and inspiring musical messages to Marymoor in August. Since forming in 2004, the band has developed into a front-runner for grassroots, independent, and tour-driven music groups. Rebelution’s last album, “Peace of Mind,” debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard Top 200.

Fellow California reggae bands The Green and Stick Figure and Santa Barbara DJ Mackle support.

Tickets go on sale Friday, April 11 at noon for all shows listed unless otherwise noted. Steely Dan will go on sale April 25 at noon. Tickets for 107.7 The End’s Summer Camp will go on sale at a later date. Additional shows will be announced.
