New developments in Redmond move to Mann Elementary

Temporary change to prevent overcrowding at Rockwell, Einstein
Redmond, Wash. – At its January 27 meeting, the Lake Washington School District Board of Directors approved a temporary boundary change that assigns new housing developments currently within the attendance boundaries of Rockwell and Einstein Elementary Schools to Mann Elementary School. All three schools are located in Redmond, Wash.  Read More >>

This recommendation was made by Dr. Traci Pierce, Superintendent, because projections for enrollment at Rockwell and Einstein over the next two years exceed the maximum capacity of both schools. A temporary boundary committee had been asked to develop potential scenarios for moving students, which were shared with the public in an open house at Redmond Middle School on January 22. The committee selected a preferred scenario, using the input they received at the open house. They presented that recommendation to Dr. Pierce on January 23. Dr. Pierce in turn made her recommendation to the board, who unanimously adopted the recommendation.

The change will reassign all homes from the following new developments from Rockwell and Einstein Elementary Schools to Mann Elementary School:
From Rockwell Elementary to Mann Elementary:Betrozoff Plat, Brookside at the Woodlands, Chablis, Cryder, Greystone Manor, Strom Property, Verona Phase II, Vistas at Mondavio Phase II, and other newly initiated developments.
From Einstein Elementary to Mann Elementary:
Bear Creek Apartments, Bear Creek Cottages, Beuca Plat, Federspiel Property, Glenshire Division 2 and 3, Hawthorne Lane, Shadow Creek, Thorn Short Plat, Willowmere Park, Wyndham Ridge, and other newly initiated developments.
Should any families with students move into the above developments during the current school year, they will be allowed to attend Mann Elementary to prevent a second transition in the fall.
These changes do not affect any students currently attending Rockwell or Einstein Elementary Schools.
The changes will be in effect through the 2015-16 school year. The bond measure currently on the ballot would fund three new elementary schools in the district to accommodate growing enrollment.

  1. That's great. But thanks to LWSD's poor planning there's no room at Mann either. Or at Redmond Elementary. Or at Einstein.

And now they want more money so they can misuse the funds again and build schools too small that will be that way for 30 years.

  2. The district used the funds the previous bonds to build and modernize the schools as they said they would. We are a growing community. We have added full-time kindergarten classrooms, and also have decreased class sizes. While many of us are displeased about some of the planning choices the school board and Dr Pearse have made, the fact remains, we need more classrooms. Our children's education depends on it. We have an imperfect school funding model, but we need to be stewards of children's and community's future. Yes, even for the die-hard "no new taxes" people, there are times when civic duty compels us to pay for causes championed by leaders we disagree with. Otherwise, we will become as dysfunctional as our US Congress.
